THROUGH
the EYES of KIDS
What do you see when you look at your church
through the eyes of children?
Here is a nifty way to experience just that –
plus create a great bulletin board!
Divide kids into groups – age and size is left to your
discretion depending on your budget and the number of kids
you have. Mixing ages can work well with this project.
Provide each group with a disposable camera.
Their assignment is to work together to take pictures
of their favorite things in church. When the pictures are developed,
gather the kids for a special time together to
discuss their pictures.
Provide a snack (maybe pizza) to discuss their pictures.
Use the pictures to create a bulletin board for the
entire church to enjoy!
Options :
*Make this project inter-generational!
Let adults participate as well as children!
*Turn the discussion into a church wide event!
Let adults see what the kids are seeing! Might just
open up new avenues of awareness between
all ages of your congregation.
*Expand the assignment to some pictures of their
least favorite things about their church.
This could really start some interesting discussions!

FINDING LOST YOUNG JESUS
If, this winter, you are teaching the
story of the young Jesus in the
temple talking to the priests, here is a game that will reinforce the
panic that Joseph and Mary must have felt when they realized
that
Jesus was not with them on the caravan back to Nazareth.
The story goes that a large group of the faithful
from Nazareth
traveled together in a caravan to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast
of the Passover. On their return to Nazareth, Jesus' parents
were
horrified to discover that Jesus was not with them and must still be
in Jerusalem. They hurried back to the city to look for him.
But where?
Finally, they found the twelve year old Jesus talking to the priests
in the temple. When they expressed their frustration with him, he
calmly
answered, "Did you not know I would be in my Father's house?"
The game:
Place a tablecloth on the table. Prepare a Ziploc Bag for
each child by filling it with raw rice plus one "very small"
safety pin.
Give each of the children a bag and tell them to place the bag in front
of
them under the tablecloth (the tablecloth eliminates the need for
blindfolds). After telling the story, explain that each child
is one of
Jesus' parents and that he/she will be looking for Jesus (the safety
pin)
among all the people and places in Jerusalem (the rice). The first
child
to find Jesus in their bag is declared a winner. Or just let
the
activity continue until everyone has found Jesus.
