First Sunday of Advent*****************************
May
the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you
trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the
power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
The
season of Advent begins on the 4th Sunday before Christmas.
That Sunday is traditionally known as the Sunday of Hope.
A Special Activity:
Make an Advent Wreath to
celebrate the four Sundays of
Advent. Poke four evenly spaced holes in a round, wreath-shaped
piece of Styrofoam. Place candles in the holes. Place a pillar candle
in the center. Decorate the wreath with greens. On this First Sunday,
light one of the candles and read the above scripture. Say a prayer
about the hope that Jesus brings.
When the service is over, blow out the candle.
First Monday of Advent *********************
Find
rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes
from him. Psalm 62:5
What is hope? It is something that we look forward to
in the future – something that sustains us and excites us and
creates anticipation.
A Special Activity:
We are thinking about hope this week. On a piece of
paper, write down a hope or a wish you have for each member
of your family. Glue your paper to a piece of larger construction
paper to create a frame. Attach to your refrigerator.
