Francis Chang, my brother-in-law, left China 45 years ago. He had not seen, or even met, some of his family since that time. He planned a return visit to his birthplace at the ancestral village in a remote area in Southeastern Mainland China. His extended family learned of the trip and made plans to have a reunion for all family members at the village.

He invited me to join him. As a stranger to the different culture and customs practiced by the Chinese people, including the Chang Family, the experience was very enlightening. The trip to a village where people live much the same as they have done for centuries, was an opportunity of a lifetime.

China has appeared more frequently in the news in recent years. Much of the news is related to China emerging as a world power. However, little is known about how the Chinese people actually live on a daily basis.
